old digital camera
上の二枚の写真について。これは敢えて15年前に発売されたCanon EOS 5D Mark-II、昨今さかんに耳にする「オールド・デジカメ」で撮影したものです。レンズはお気に入りのCarl Zeiss Distagon 2/35 ZE、マニュアルフォーカス。Raw現像のプロセスでIlford Pan F Plus 50の印画紙調仕上げに。
なんでこのようなことをしたのか。それは撮影現場に着き海岸を見渡した時、そこには1960年代、昭和の雰囲気が漂っていたからに他なりません。多くの観光客が夕刻の海を背景に和気あいあいと時間を過ごしている。人々の服装はなにげに地味で、夏の派手な海岸風景からは想像つかないほど時代感覚とかけ離れているように思えました。それは子供の頃、この同じ場所で目にしていた光景そのものではないか。
冬の海岸、こんなこともあるのではないかと予想し、この日は古い機材をリックに忍ばせていたわけです。
極端な逆光条件での撮影ははっきり言ってしまえば失敗作です。それよりも過ぎ去ったノスタルジックな光景を捉えることができた。これはこれで良しとします。
About the two photos above. These were taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark-II released 15 years ago, the “old digital camera” we hear so much about these days. The lens is my favorite Carl Zeiss Distagon 2/35 ZE, manual focus, with Ilford Pan F Plus 50 photographic paper finish during the raw development process.
Why did I do this? It was because when I arrived at the location and looked out over the beach, I was struck by the atmosphere of the 1960s and Showa period. Many tourists were spending their time in a friendly atmosphere with the evening sea in the background. The people’s clothes were sober, and the atmosphere seemed so far removed from that of the times that it was hard to imagine the flashy summer seaside scenery. It was the very scene I had seen in this same place when I was a child.
I had my old equipment in my rick on this day, anticipating that this might happen at the beach in the winter.
To put it bluntly, shooting in extremely backlit conditions was a mistake. Rather, I was able to capture a nostalgic scene of a bygone era. This is a good thing.
